Costa Rica

Surf, Salsa & Soul

June 1-8, 2026

The Caribbean

The Caribbean coast of Costa Rica is special for its vibrant blend of culture, nature, and rhythm that feels unlike anywhere else in the country. Influenced strongly by Afro-Caribbean heritage, the region is rich in music, food, language, and traditions that create a warm, soulful atmosphere. Lush rainforests meet golden beaches, wildlife is abundant, and life moves at a relaxed pace that invites visitors to slow down and connect. From the sounds of reggae to the flavors of rice and beans cooked in coconut milk, Costa Rica’s Caribbean is a place where culture and nature exist in beautiful harmony.

Surf

Learning to surf on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast is special because it combines consistent waves with a laid-back, encouraging vibe. Beaches like Puerto Viejo offer warm water, uncrowded lineups, and waves that are friendly for beginners while still exciting as skills improve. Surrounded by jungle and wildlife, surf sessions feel immersive and peaceful, and local instructors bring deep knowledge of the ocean and strong community spirit. Surfing there isn’t just about learning a sportβ€”it’s about connecting with the rhythm of the sea and the relaxed Caribbean way of life.

Adventure

Dense jungles, wild rivers, and untamed beaches invite exploration, we will be hiking to hidden waterfalls, paddling through mangroves, spotting sloths and monkeys, tasting all the wonderful flavors of the caribbean. The mix of ocean and rainforest creates a constant sense of discovery, where each day brings something new and unexpected. On the Caribbean side, adventure feels raw and authenticβ€”less about crowds and more about embracing nature, spontaneity, and the thrill of the unknown.

Salsa

Costa Rica has a deep love for music and movement. Dance is part of everyday life especially in the Caribbean, influenced by Afro-Caribbean rhythms that make learning feel natural and fun rather than formal.

Salsa naturally connects people, breaking language barriers and creating instant energy and chemistry on the dance floor. Learning salsa isn’t just about the stepsβ€”it’s about connecting with yourself, people, and embracing the freeness of your spirit.

Salsa is the new black :)

Wildlife

The wildlife on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast is incredibly rich and alive, making it feel like nature is always close by. Lush rainforests and protected areas are home to sloths, howler and capuchin monkeys, toucans, poison dart frogs, and countless tropical birds. Along the coast, you can spot sea turtles nesting on the beaches and colorful marine life in the warm Caribbean waters. What makes it especially magical is how naturally wildlife blends into everyday lifeβ€”you might see a sloth in a tree near the road or hear monkeys calling from the jungle, reminding you that this region is truly wild and wonderfully preserved.

Accomodation + Food

Casa Kinkajui is a beatiful property right near the center of town making it easy to walk town and to the beaches nearby. This 4 bedroom home has its own pool, high-speed internet, and our own private shala for salsa lessons and yoga for those that enjoy a little stretch here and there. It is the perfect space for us to connect and also to wind down in the evenings. Each room has AC for those that like to cool off from the humidity.

We will have a private chef every morning for a nice healthy and hearty breakfast. Lunches will be out at local restaurants to explore the local flavors.

Dinners will be out in town except for one bbq night and one night where we will have a cooking class for RON DON. Made with coconut milk, root vegetables, green bananas, yam, cassava, spices, and often fish or meat, it reflects the Afro-Caribbean tradition of cooking with what the land and sea provide. The rich, hearty flavors carry generations of history, family gatherings, and slow, soulful cooking.
